What does it mean to be a Womxn of Distinction?

Sigma Lambda Gamma believes that Culture is Pride, Pride is Success. We explore the richness in the traditions of all cultures. This encompasses the cultural heritages of Native Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians and their multiple and interesting mixtures. We celebrate the diversity of the backgrounds of all members of our sorority. Through these efforts in Cultural Awareness, we expect that each womxn will explore their roots and traditions and share those with other individuals so that cultural understanding and respect are promoted. We hope to create new traditions for future generations of womxn to celebrate their identity and heritage with pride and joy throughout the college years.

"She is a rare jewel like an amethyst,
an exotic predator like a panther,
and a delicate flower like a pink rose..."

What makes us stand out?

To promote cultural awareness, Baltazar Mendoza Madrigal, a brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, founded Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, thus in turn founding Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. This bond created what is now known as "The Royal Family," or "The F.I.R.M. Family". Not officially recognized nationally, the Sigmas, Zetas, Betas and Gammas are cousin organizations, making us the First Inter-Racially Mixed Family.

Sorority Membership

Sigma Lambda Gamma strives to be the premier organization committed to providing a mechanism of empowerment to all womxn. There are many reasons why Sigma Lambda Gamma was founded and why you should consider being a part of our National family. Sigma Lambda Gamma is a lifelong commitment. Not only will you get the academic and moral support you need to be successful in college but you will gain a lifetime of memories. As a chapter, we expect our Sxsters to live out our five principles in their everyday lives, and strive to go above and beyond set expectations. This includes: attending weekly chapter meetings and programs, carrying out officer duties, paying chapter and national dues, maintaining a 2.75 cumulative GPA, completing mandated study and community service hours, and following the standards and policies set forth by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Affairs.

Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. believes that a multicultural experience during the college years and beyond enhances each member’s ability to function in a pluralistic society.
