What does it mean to be a Womxn of Distinction?
Sigma Lambda Gamma believes that Culture is Pride, Pride is Success. We explore the richness in the traditions of all cultures. This encompasses the cultural heritages of Native Americans, Europeans, Africans, Asians and their multiple and interesting mixtures. We celebrate the diversity of the backgrounds of all members of our sorority. Through these efforts in Cultural Awareness, we expect that each womxn will explore their roots and traditions and share those with other individuals so that cultural understanding and respect are promoted. We hope to create new traditions for future generations of womxn to celebrate their identity and heritage with pride and joy throughout the college years.
"She is a rare jewel like an amethyst,
an exotic predator like a panther,
and a delicate flower like a pink rose..."
What makes us stand out?
To promote cultural awareness, Baltazar Mendoza Madrigal, a brother of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated, founded Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, thus in turn founding Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. This bond created what is now known as "The Royal Family," or "The F.I.R.M. Family". Not officially recognized nationally, the Sigmas, Zetas, Betas and Gammas are cousin organizations, making us the First Inter-Racially Mixed Family.
